Pamela Nelson Gee has taught, mentored, performed, and inspired using the arts, especially in education. As an arts educator she has had grassroots, to state, and national involvement and been able to develop purposeful processes in arts education in collaboration with many of the best people in the profession. Pamela began acting as a young child and was teaching creative drama by age 15 with the Children's Festival Theatre in Rexburg, ID. She graduated from Ricks College (now BYU-I) and Utah State University (USU) in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in music and dance. While attending USU, Ruth B. Call hired Pamela to teach classes and direct productions for the Unicorn Theatre and she continued for 12 years (writing and adapting nearly 20 productions), even returning and assisting with the program later as their education director. She also worked at Cache Valley Center for the Arts (Cache Arts) as the education outreach manager and art camp director. All the while, since 1997, Pamela helped build and create the theatre aspects of the Opera by Children (OBC) program traveling the state helping classes create original operas. She moved from there into an administrative role as education associate in 2003 for Utah Festival. She has been directing the program since 2011. She is co-author and co-editor of the "Opera by Children" training manual, a step-by-step approach for teachers to use as they incorporate opera into their core curriculum. She has traveled the country teaching OBC arts integration methods. She is a frequent presenter on teaching the arts to children, arts administration, creative drama, and adjudicates for the Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards (UHSMTA). She loves to sing and enjoys being a private acting coach, playwright and performer. She also writes poetry and spends time with her family (Husband, Steve, and three daughters). She stands as a Change Leader for the Utah Division of Arts and Museums since 2006, and has been a frequent grant panelist. She was invited to be influential with the recent update of the Utah Fine Arts Core Standards. She is a board member for EngAge Utah, Utah Cultural Alliance (UCA), and is Vice Chairman of the Board for Utahns for Culture.
