Leveraging the Power of Citizen Science in Out-of-School Time

Recognizing that the middle school years present a pivotal opportunity to ignite or extinguish a student’s lifelong interest in STEM, Science Action Club (SAC) designs educational resources that leverage the power of citizen science. Participation in citizen science projects help spark youth excitement for science and grow a new generation of environmental stewards. Youth in SAC investigate birds, bugs, and clouds in their local environment and use citizen science to document their discoveries, share data with professional scientists, and design strategies to protect our planet. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll go outdoors to explore how SAC uses citizen science projects to increase interest in STEM and build environmental literacy among out-of-school time youth.
