Jump Start 2019

Nature journaling can be a powerful technique to foster learning as well as an enjoyable past time. Learners are encouraged to spend time observing nature and recording their observations, usually in a combination of sketching and written description. The process is simple but allows for the development of a wide range of skills and can incorporate a variety of topics, including art, language, math, wellness, and science. Nature journaling also can be adapted for students with a variety of learning styles. It allows them to develop creativity, independent thought, choice-making, and self-confidence. Participants should leave this session with a greater appreciation of the natural world and a better understanding of how to conduct scientific observations and ask meaningful questions. They should have more confidence to express themselves creatively and encourage the same in others.
