Food for Thought: How Afterschool Can Support Nutrition

This session will describe the current nutrition status of children and adolescents, such as sugar intake and fruit and vegetable intake, as well as the benefits of nutrition on health and learning. We will discuss the Smart Snacks criteria used in schools and resources for healthier holiday parties, themed parties, and non-food rewards. Lastly, the session will focus on how to support nutrition in the home through various communication channels and scientifically accurate websites and resources.
